The Home Facial
(Do not forget to include your neck and throat in all the following procedures)
Clean your face with make-up remover or lotion, massaging it on your skin for five minutes then removing it gently with cotton wool.
Steam your face. Take a pot of boiling water and place it on a hot plate on a low table. Sitting in front of the steaming pot. Take a large towel about six inches in front of your forehead, lean over the pot, but keep at least 1 foot (12inches) away - if you get too close, you can burn your skin or come out looking a bit lobsterish. After 10 minutes, pat your face dry.
Apply a mask. (You can use either a proprietary brand or a natural home-made one, see bottom of this page.) After 10mins, remove the mask with damp cotton-wool balls. Try not to talk or move your face while the mask is on (take the phone off the hook!).
Spray your face all over with fine mist of Evian water or dab with damp cotton wool. Gently pat your skin dry and then apply a light moisturizer.
If possible, do not apply make-up for several hours after your facial. Let your skin breathe.
HOME-MADE FACIAL MASK
The Magic Egg
The egg is one of the oldest known natural beauty products in existence
Nourishing Face Mask (this can be used every other day)
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon almond oil
Mix together; apply and leave on the face for 10 - 30mins. Cream may also be added to make it even more nutritious, and you can use the whole egg instead of the yolk alone. (The egg yolk contains lecithin, one of the most important nutrients, and also protein, which is why it is exceptionally beneficial to the skin.) Experiment to find out what most benefits your skin.
Egg and Yeast Mask
1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon brewers' yeast
1 tablespoon sunflower oil
Mix these together into a smooth paste and apply to the face. Leave for about 15mins and rinse off with milk. The yeast stimulates the skin, and with the addition of the egg yolk and oil is a most effective mask.
The Magic Avocado
Avocados feed the skin from without as well as within. I truly believe they are one of the best beauty foods, they contain some of the finest natural oil there is.
(You can hasten the ripening process by placing your avocados in a paper bag or wrapping them in aluminum foil.)
Facial Cleanser
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup milk
1/2 peeled ripe avocado, mashed
Beat egg yolk until light and frothy. Add milk and mashed avocado, blend. Apply on squares of cotton. Store in refrigerator between uses.
Skin Mask
1/2 avocado, peeled, mashed
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 cup milk
Blend avocado, honey and milk. Apply to face and neck. Relax for 20mins. Remove with tepid water.
Skin smoother
Shell the avocado and scrape the inside peel clean of any fruit. You will feel a slightly abrasive sandy substance which is oily to the touch. Rub it vigorously on your feet, your hands or wherever you have rough skin. Dead cells seem to slough off instantly, and the oil of the avocado will lubricate and beautify the skin.
